Speed Watch

Haselbury Plucknett Community Speed Watch (CSW)

Community Speed Watch – a national organisation – is designed to support the Police by making us all aware of the dangers of travelling too fast for the prevailing conditions (For more information on CSW see Avon & Somerset Police CSW Page).  It is an unhappy fact that more than 100 people are killed on the roads of Avon & Somerset every year ; the figure for the whole of the UK is over 1700! Many more people suffer serious and life changing injuries.  More than 300 deaths a year involve someone being “careless, reckless or in a hurry”; and a further 120 involve “aggressive driving.”

Village Involvement with CSW

CSW watches therefore give us – the residents of Haselbury Plucknett – the ability to get actively involved in road safety.

CSW is not about spying or snooping on neighbours.  It is about taking positive action to improve the safety and quality of life for everyone; and to raise public awareness of inappropriate speeds of vehicles.

CSW watches are (a) supported and monitored by the Avon & Somerset Police; and (b) welcomed by the Parish Council and the vast majority of residents.
